New clay Tennis courts with floodlights at Hove Park!

You may have noticed that recently, the courts have undergone renovations, including the installation of new artificial clay tennis courts and floodlights. These new courts offer several advantages to tennis players who use them.

  1. Improved Playability: The new clay courts at Hove Park provide a consistent playing surface that allows for improved ball bounce and playability. This can enhance the quality of play and make for a more enjoyable experience for players of all levels.

  2. Better Traction: The clay surface of the new courts provides players with better traction, reducing the risk of slipping and injuries. This can be particularly important during damp or wet weather conditions when other types of surfaces may be slippery.

  3. Soft Surface: The new clay courts have a softer surface than traditional hard courts, which can be easier on a player's joints and muscles. This can reduce the risk of injuries, especially for older or injury-prone players. I for one can really feel the reduced strain on knees compared to the hard courts.

  4. Slide Ability: The new clay courts at Hove Park allow players to slide into their shots, which can be a valuable technique in certain situations. This can help players reach balls that would be out of reach otherwise and generate more power in their shots. Sliding takes practice, but after becoming confident with your footing, sliding can really add in another enjoyable aspect to the game. You don't have to slide, but it sure is fun!

  5. Unique Playing Experience: Clay courts offer a unique playing experience compared to other surfaces, which can be a refreshing change for tennis players. The slower pace of play and wider range of spin make for a different game that can test a player's skills in new ways.

  6. Longer Playing Season: The new clay courts at Hove Park can be played on in a wider range of weather conditions than other surfaces, allowing for a longer playing season. This means that tennis enthusiasts can continue to enjoy the game even in cooler temperatures and light rain.

  7. In the sunnier months, players can benefit from no glare off the court, allowing you to focus on the ball.

The clay courts at Hove Park offer several advantages for tennis players of all levels. These new courts have already proven to a popular choice among tennis enthusiasts in the Brighton and Hove area.
